Call for Proposals: The Presents Group

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The Present Group, a quarterly art subscription service, seeks proposals from artists for projects that are reproducible in intent. We are looking for projects that will result in a limited edition, artist multiple, or a single work that consists of multiple parts. Every year TPG subscribers receive limited edition works from 4 different contemporary artists.  A $500 honorarium is awarded to each season’s artist.  Artists must submit a proposal to submit[at]thepresentgroup.com or via USPS: The Present Group  Attn: Submission  593 8th St. #3  Oakland, CA  94607.    For more information please visit: www.thepresentgroup.com, to download full submission guidelines:  http://www.thepresentgroup.com/TPG-submissions.pdf

What is expected of the artists:
Propose a project where the final product will be reproduced art pieces.  This is an opportunity to branch out and test a different approach to art making.  If you already work in multiples, that’s fine too. What we send to our subscribers could be a piece from a limited edition or parts of a larger work.  The project will be made exclusively through The Present Group.  We understand that similar themes and images may be used throughout your other work, however you agree not to create the exact project again.

What we look for:
Most importantly, your work must be reproducible in intent.  There will be no “original”.  Each piece will be the work itself, or a part of the work.  Our editions are between 50-100
We choose based on the piece’s Visual, Conceptual, or Experiential interest.
In order to keep our subscribers exposed to a large variety of work, we keep in mind the progression in which they are released, in terms of media, themes, style.
Is it feasible?  Can we afford to make it? If we love your project but don’t think we can afford to do it now, we may ask to hold on to your proposal for a future possibility.

Appreciation for Selected Artists:
- $500  (This is an honorarium; this does not go toward the making of the pieces)
- 4 of the produced work for your own collection or to sell on your own.
- A captive audience of Art Lovers and Collectors
- All the contextual information we create for your piece, including artist info, critiques, and video will remain free on-line as long as TPG exists

Your proposal should include:
- Contact Information:  Name, Address, Phone Number, E-mail, Website (if it applies)

-Project Proposal:
1. What you want to do.
2. How this work will relate to/expand on current themes in your work
3. Anything (sketches, photos. . .) to help you explain your idea.

A.I.R. Gallery is pleased to offer a new opportunity: OPEN A.I.R. 2009. We invite all women artists, curators and other art professionals to submit curatorial proposals for a one-month exhibit to be held at A.I.R. Gallery in Gallery II and/or III during the 2009-2010 season.

DEADLINE: Proposals must be postmarked or hand delivered to the gallery on or before July 1, 2009 at 6pm. Proposals submitted online must be received by 11pm on July 1, 2009.

Art critic Carey Lovelace wrote in Art in America in 2007: “Since 1972, the trailblazing A.I.R. Gallery in New York, the world’s first women’s art gallery, has provided quiet support for those operating outside the art world’s market-obsessed precincts.” In October 2008, A.I.R. opened a new, expanded space at 111 Front Street in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn. Each year, A.I.R. holds more than twenty month-long solo exhibitions and at least four month-long curated group exhibits in its three gallery spaces. In addition, the gallery hosts a range of public programs and workshops. Artists working in a variety of media, at various points in their professional development make up our New York Artists, National Members and Fellowship Artists. OPEN A.I.R. will continue the gallery’s mission – to exhibit work of quality and diversity by women and to provide leadership and community to women artists and art professionals.

GUIDELINES & ELIGIBILITY: Proposals must include at least 50% women artists. All women worldwide, regardless of age, curatorial experience, or place of residence are encouraged to apply. Artists may choose to include their own work in the exhibition. Work in all media and materials may be submitted. Exhibitions must include two or more artists. Artists are encouraged to include one or more A.I.R. Artists in their exhibition (see Artists section) Gallery floor plans are available HERE
APPLICATION PROCESS:

* Fill out contact information.
* Submit an exhibition proposal of 750 words or less.
* Submit five (5) images of work by artists to be included in the exhibit. More than one image may be included for an artist, but the total number of images in the application package may not exceed five.

* Enclose SASE if you would like your materials returned (not for online application).

COMMITMENT & BENEFITS: A.I.R. will publicize the exhibit and produce an announcement card or pamphlet. Call for Proposals: NURTUREart

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

NURTUREart presents six to eight exhibitions per season in our gallery in East Williamsburg. The majority of these exhibitions are organized by emerging curators whose proposals have been selected by a guest panel of noteable artworld experts—a rotating jury of professional curators, gallerists, art writers and the like, who help us choose the most promising exhibits. At least half of the artists in each proposal must be from our registry which promotes an exciting cross pollination between emerging curators and emerging artists. These exhibits are executed through a collaborative effort between NURTUREart staff, the exhibition curator, and the participating artists, offering all involved great exposure and experience. NURTUREart also reserves space in its exhibition schedule for one or two alternate projects, which can include collaborations with other non-profit spaces, an invited special guest curator, or other community arts projects.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

All emerging independent curators committed to developing their professional curatorial practice are invited and encouraged to submit proposals for exhibitions in the NURTUREart Gallery. Proposals are reviewed once a year, the next deadline will be in May of 2009.
