Unseen: A Photographers Salon

Randal Scott Gallery

October 22nd-November 21st
111 Front Street, #204, Dumbo
Opening Reception: October 22nd, 6-8:30 P.M.

Unseen is an introduction to some of New York’s most promising, hard working, and creative minds in the photography field whose bold ideas, themes, and techniques work to transcend the history of photographic art.

Adam Krause, a third generation Holocaust survivor, creates portraits of Neo Nazis. Nicola Kast, A German, explores and deconstructs German History. Cara Phillips Singular Beauty is a haunting social critique on modern surgical rooms while Phil Toledano’s portraits of plastic surgery patients is a classic aftermath of the surreal. Portrait work by Chad States, Natasha Gornik, Eric McNatt, Richard Renaldi, Bon Duke, and Ryan Pfluger examine the notions of self and the other. Leah Oates and Megan Cump visit serene, painterly landscapes while Nadine Rovner sends us back to retro the seventies through feel and color. Elizabeth Fleming examines the simplicity of the moment in a child’s world, Clayton Cotterell documents his brother now serving in the US military, and Alex Leme searches random urban settings.

As an Art Collector, I address the challenge that most art lovers constantly face… the search of new art and the issues of acquiring work for small spaces. By using the salon style for this show I demonstrate different themes and techniques, presented in a very traditional manner, that work within a confined space. Space should not limit your desire for collecting…the sky is the limit!

Erin Nelson Print Sale / Exchange

December 14th, 2008 by admin

“Here’s the deal, you give me something you feel is equal to the print. If you are a photographer I love, send me a print in return (I’m going to be picky about this; sorry I have peculiar taste and not a lot of room in my apartment). If you just want to buy one, I simply ask you “pay what you wish.” My only requirement is that you cover printing and shipping costs which I’m going to flat rate at $10 (unless you’re international which would probably make it about $18). Of course it would be really amazing if you paid me more than that since I have many projects I’m working on right now that desperately need some funding. But I understand that most of us can’t throw down hundreds of dollars for a print. I would be so happy with anything in the $30-$80 range since these aren’t just digital prints and they did take some time and skill to produce.

That being said, all of the prints are hand-printed c-prints from the darkroom from the negative. They are all printed on 11×14 luster fuji paper and then cropped down to the full frame size, making them about 9×13. The last two images are on 16×20 matte paper and the image area is about 14×19, so those will be more expensive, but they are kind of weird so I doubt you’d want them anyway. I have about 1-3 copies of each image. None of them are perfect, museum quality prints, but they show the hand of artist and I, at least, find that sincere and endearing. I will say that all of them look A LOT better than the digital versions.”
